Seeing as how Lorie and I were in Mount Rainier National Park yesterday for our anniversary, I wasn’t able to get a proper comic made for you this week. Fortunately, I still have a few of these classroom comics up my sleeve! Party Crab seemed like he was pretty popular with the students, so I figured I’d share him with you too. In the meantime, I’m taking today to get a head start on next week’s comic!
One of the fun things about living sort-of-on-the-coast is that I’m a lot closer to little tidal areas than I used to be, so I have more opportunity to chase tiny crabs around the rocky beaches. For some reason the way they scuttle around and try to hide themselves under little rocks is really entertaining to me, and the tiny hermit crabs are great too, when I find them. Really I’m just delighted by pretty much anything that moves, I suppose. So far I’ve only found tiny crabs, rather than any big ones, but I think they’re out there, somewhere. We’ve also got giant pacific octopuses in the area too, but I’ve yet to see one of those in the wild– they don’t spend much time out of the water! Maybe one of these days I can do learn to scuba dive or go snorkeling or something to learn more about the undersea world just a few dozen yards off the shore, but for now I’ll just have to be content with what I can find in the tidal zones when I’m at the water’s edge.
