Somehow I feel like this might be kind of an old joke, but I went for it anyway. This seems to happen to me a little more frequently when I’m stressed– probably because my mind is in five different places at once in those situations. When this happens, though, I sometimes find it helpful to walk backwards… literally pacing backwards through the space, running in rewind, looking for the visual cue that distracted me, and then working back to what triggered my movement to begin with. You might be surprised at how effective that is for me.

So, if you ever see me walking backwards, murmuring to myself, and deep in thought, I’m not having “an episode”, I’m probably just trying to remember that I was looking for a screwdriver, or a battery or something.
